Dear Parents of PKP Pledge Class 2011/12,
Welcome to Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity! My name is Connie Euston and I am the past president
of the Mom’s Club for the fraternity. Kim Wand is the incoming president for this coming
year. We wanted to provide you with a quick note and welcome you to the next chapter in
your son’s life.
Our ‘boys’ are now young adults and are ready to take on the task of running their own lives.
They have their own board and are making the decisions for their lives at the Fraternity. So
even though we are severing the apron strings, the purse strings are still hanging on by a thick
thread and with that in mind we, the Mom’s Club is here to function as a go between the
house and the families at home in an effort to support the boys’ endeavors throughout the
year.
Mom’s Club at Phi Psi has a long history and is a great organization that dates back to 1945! We’ll have a
short meeting with introductions on Wednesday, August 17 at 2:30 on Pledge Move-In Day. The statement
below explains the function of our club and how the dues support the fraternity.
Mom’s Club Mission
The purpose of this organization shall be to promote the interest and welfare of the Kansas
Alpha Chapter of Phi Kappa Psi at the University of Kansas.
Club dues are $50.00
Your club dues, auction donations and other event fees are used exclusively to:
• Offset (or fully fund) cost of items for the House
(such as: wash/dryer, outdoor commercial-size grill, dining room dishes,
flatware, ’10 flat screen TV for family room, etc.)
• Offset cost of parent and member events
Pay for bus transportation
(pledge “walk-out” bus, Mom’s Weekend party bus, etc.)
• Pay for club website maintenance and the boys’ member site.
• Help with any other needs brought to our attention by the House Mom or the
KU Phi Psi chapter.
One of the most important things that happened in the last few years is our Mom’s Club WEBSITE…
www.KUPHIPSIMOMS.com
Add this link to your homepage so you can check in frequently with what is happening at the house and
with the Mom’s Club. Text alerts are sent out periodically for reminders and emergency information as
needed. The Communication coordinator will explain more at parent’s weekend, but by visiting the site
you can see how to stay informed, find contact information and enjoy pictures from recent events. (Send
any pictures you have to Mary Cay Tokic at

House mom at Phi Psi is Esther Wolfe. She has been with the house for 15 years! Mom’s job is to oversee
the running of the house. This summer she has had new carpet installed in the Chapter Room, cleaned
carpets, and made repairs everywhere, just to name a few. She has an awesome task and the house
is lucky to have such a wonderful lady who is there to help our boy’s take responsibility for their new
surroundings. She is there to teach them respect for their environment and makes sure, along with the
cook Andy Holmes that the boys are fed and they have a roof over their heads. The first floor is ruled by
Mom, the other floors – well let’s just say they are ruled by - our young men!
We’ll see you on Wednesday, August 17th beginning at noon for MOVE –IN! Expect a little chaos! You’ll
need your energy so eat something before you come. There will be cold water bottles and some munchies
available throughout the day. The rest of the boys move in Friday the 19th and classes begin on Monday,
August 22th.
• Need some help? Just look for Mom’s Club Officers wearing “Red Aprons”.
Attend the short Parent’s Orientation meeting at 2:30 in the dining room.
• Remember to bring your checkbook so you can stop by and visit with Beth Jenkins, Treasurer,
